Use the Transport for London Trip planner next time
------------
From Tottenham Hale Underground Station
Take the Victoria Line towards Brixton to
Oxford Circus Underground Station
--> transfer
Take the Bakerloo Line towards Stonebridge Park
or Bakerloo Line towards Harrow & Wealdstone
or Bakerloo Line towards Queen's Park
to Maida Vale Underground Station
---------------------
If you want to walk through London, you may be better off getting off at Warren Street (before Oxford Circus) and walking through the park to Maida Vale. It is over a 2 mile walk.
References :
http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk/user/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en

Just look at the tube map. It is color coded. It is quite easy to follow. If you follow the Vicotia line south from Totenham Hale to Oxford Circus, and then get off and go North on the Bakerloo line, you should get there.
References :
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/standard-tube-map.pdf

At Tottenham Hale take the Victoria Line to Oxford Circus & change to the Bakerloo Line.

In Tottenham Hale you take the train which is going to Brixton & get out at Oxford Circus, for Bakerloo you take the train that's going to Harrow & Wealdstone. The station where the train for the Bakerloo line terminates may vary but you can check it against the map.

This link will take you to the Transport for London website where you can use the journey planner & see maps of the London Underground - Victoria Line is the dark blue line & Bakerloo is brown.
