London Travel Card: Not for the Lazy Tourist
A London travel card is definitely not for the lazy tourist who is content with the view from the hotel room window and is happy with just touring the clubs in the Central area of the megapolis.
Don’t Buy this Card
If you belong to the breed of tourists, who hate crowds in train stations and abhor bus rides, the London travel card is definitely not for you. You need the black taxis that charge a fortune to take you to the nearest pub or that bar where the best Russian vodka is served.
If you have booked a room in the West End to be near all that exciting nightlife, you can walk to the pubs and hire a ride to take to the classier joints that are not on the way. Definitely, you are not going to need the tube to get there.
If your target is a country view from a bed and breakfast and morning and afternoon walks in idyllic country hubs, you do not need the card. You can get to the nice places in the country on a bike or on foot. In the evenings, you can scoot to the nearest charming pub serving the same ale, roasted venison, and pudding their predecessors served during the times of knights and ladies-in-distress.
If you are on a one-day London break, surely you have no time to savor the big city. The hotel and a nearby resto bar after a business break will take care of your sightseeing needs. But by the next trip when you have more time to spare you will need the London travel card – - DEFINITELY.
Here’s Why
A London travel card cannot be refunded if you do not use it. That’s a waste of money. From the airport, you can hire a taxi to take you to your hotel in the area where you are going to spend your time during a one-day trip. To pack in sight-seeing in a few hours will be nerve-wracking. There is so much to see and do, you cannot do it all in one day on top of your business appointment.
If you are buying the card just in case but you have already mapped out your itinerary – hotel, business date, back to hotel, then it would be pointless to get this card. If you are the lazy tourist who conjures up all kinds of adventure but cannot meet the demands for sight-seeing, such waking as up early to catch the tour schedule, and squeezing in more sight-seeing forget the card.
If you only have one more place to go other than your business meeting, you are better off with a pay-as-you-go option. One ride on the tube to another place and return ride back to the hotel does not need the unlimited offer of the travel card.
Buy the Card If
You are going to have a 5 or 7 days holiday in London. You will need all that rides – tube, train, and bus; go get the London travel card. That is, if you are not the lazy tourist who wants to watch the sun set in one spot in London.
