Destination London

This film was made as a pilot interview-lead destination film. Shot and edited in a very short time for the price of a travel card it has helped us understand what works in this format. We feel the central concept works well, creating a film free of the sickly gloss of standard promotional travel films — giving an authentic feeling, tourist’s-eye-view of London.

London Travel Card for a Honeymoon

Young couples are becoming practical and smart. For a honeymoon, they would rather spend it in a place like London where they can tour romantic castles, enjoy adventures in a picturesque countryside, and take on the London’s nightlife — without spending a fortune on rides, thanks to the London travel card.

From Heathrow to Honeymoon Destination

From Heathrow Airport, couples armed with their London travel card can take the bus or the tube. The Heathrow Express train is an option if you really want to get to your destination fastest but that’s an expensive 15 minute ride to Paddington Station. The tube and the bus are the cheapest rides. But then you want to save money on rides to have extra spending money for honeymoon treats.

The tube will take you to the nearest station of your honeymoon destination, whether it is the busiest part of the circle or the laid back countryside. Once you have hit the metro, you can explore the sights and sounds, and ride the double-decked buses to enjoy a wide angle view of the metropolis, again using your London travel card. If the route is not covered by the card, you simply pay for an extension fare.

In the evening, you can drop in the liveliest bar or visit a night market just to get the feel of the other kind of nightlife in London’s busy district. Or off you go to watch the sunset at the Docklands. The London travel card is a necessity for honeymooners who want to see a lot of places – it provides unlimited rides for the day. You have more options with the card. If you want a 7 day card or a three day card, you can get it online or order it from the tube station.

The Countryside

The countryside offers a refreshing respite from the frenzied lifestyle in the megapolis and the best place to start your wedded bliss. You can have lazy mornings and breakfast in bed without the smog and the noise. The tube and bus can take you there.

Traveling to the countryside by tube is a convenient way to go if you want to spend your honeymoon near the hunting grounds of ancient kings. That is in the Epping Forests where there are cheaper but great accommodations. You ride the tube from Liverpool and get off at Chingford and get a bus.

Perhaps a stay in Canterbury to soak up the medieval past is your cup of tea. Canterbury is situated in the southeast route and the tube can take you to Kent and from there you can backpack to the nearest hotel or bed and breakfast.

Double Treat

For smart honeymooners, the 2-for-1 London travel card is a honeymoon gift. This can be bought from a railway station not from the London underground or the DLR. This comes with added treats, such as the discounted pass for great attractions in the London area.

If you are planning your wedding and a honeymoon in London, think about this travel card. Slip it into a barrier slot or show it, you’re on your way.

London Travel Card and Underground Travel

The fastest and cheapest way to get around London is via the Tube, an Underground Railroad network that runs until midnight six days a week because hours are reduced on Sundays. With a London travel card, you can explore London without buying tickets each time you take the tube to the nearest station of your destination.

Have Card, Will Tube

The tube can take anywhere in London’s major routes. The metro system serves a large portion of Greater London and the neighboring areas – Buckingham, Essex, and Herefordshire. You can ride the tube all day to different routes with just one London travel card plus there is no need to rush during the peak hours.

As a tourist, it is best to avoid the rush, right? You do not want to be squeezed and jostled during the peak hours when people are all headed to work and school. Starting five in the morning, the tube network is up and moving and there’s no stop to the trips taking you out of London until midnight. So there is no need to rush.

But the best part about having a London travel card, which are not given to locals, is the money you save on the number of taxi rides you might have to take without the this card. Imagine, on £5.50 you have unlimited tube travel the whole day without the trouble of queuing up for a ticket. So pick up a card now and take it wherever you go just in case you need a ride on the tube to some place interesting in the suburbs or in the Circle.

The Lowdown with the Tube

To the Londoner, the tube is a way of life. For a tourist, it is a novel way of experiencing London. But you had better Mind the Gap – a warning to all mind the gap or to keep behind the yellow line of the platforms. This becomes a concern when there is overcrowding but tube workers monitor the crowds and prevent overcrowding.

The tube is a fantastic way to get around but you cannot have any view from the window, except the flash of steel, empty or busy platforms, and lights, as you would on a regular train ride. You can entertain yourself by reading a book, fiddling with your mobile phone, or watching the interesting characters also immersed in their private thoughts.

There are times too when parts of the underground network are under repair, which can be a nuisance if you rely heavily on the tube to get around. But with a London travel card, you can switch to overground trains or a bus without trouble. This make the travel card a necessity for the intrepid tourist.

More Tube Facts

The underground railway system has 11 lines and the destinations are color coded. The major routes, central line is red; the circle line is yellow; the district line is green. You can check out the colors of these destinations at the tube’s different stations. As long as you have your hand-held London travel card, you can get to these places, fast.

London Travel Card: Not for the Lazy Tourist

A London travel card is definitely not for the lazy tourist who is content with the view from the hotel room window and is happy with just touring the clubs in the Central area of the megapolis.

Don’t Buy this Card

If you belong to the breed of tourists, who hate crowds in train stations and abhor bus rides, the London travel card is definitely not for you. You need the black taxis that charge a fortune to take you to the nearest pub or that bar where the best Russian vodka is served.

If you have booked a room in the West End to be near all that exciting nightlife, you can walk to the pubs and hire a ride to take to the classier joints that are not on the way. Definitely, you are not going to need the tube to get there.

If your target is a country view from a bed and breakfast and morning and afternoon walks in idyllic country hubs, you do not need the card. You can get to the nice places in the country on a bike or on foot. In the evenings, you can scoot to the nearest charming pub serving the same ale, roasted venison, and pudding their predecessors served during the times of knights and ladies-in-distress.

If you are on a one-day London break, surely you have no time to savor the big city. The hotel and a nearby resto bar after a business break will take care of your sightseeing needs. But by the next trip when you have more time to spare you will need the London travel card – - DEFINITELY.

Here’s Why

A London travel card cannot be refunded if you do not use it. That’s a waste of money. From the airport, you can hire a taxi to take you to your hotel in the area where you are going to spend your time during a one-day trip. To pack in sight-seeing in a few hours will be nerve-wracking. There is so much to see and do, you cannot do it all in one day on top of your business appointment.

If you are buying the card just in case but you have already mapped out your itinerary – hotel, business date, back to hotel, then it would be pointless to get this card. If you are the lazy tourist who conjures up all kinds of adventure but cannot meet the demands for sight-seeing, such waking as up early to catch the tour schedule, and squeezing in more sight-seeing forget the card.

If you only have one more place to go other than your business meeting, you are better off with a pay-as-you-go option. One ride on the tube to another place and return ride back to the hotel does not need the unlimited offer of the travel card.

Buy the Card If

You are going to have a 5 or 7 days holiday in London. You will need all that rides – tube, train, and bus; go get the London travel card. That is, if you are not the lazy tourist who wants to watch the sun set in one spot in London.
