Any advice about London travel?

I have some errands to run tomorrow and there will be a lot of train use. I will be going to Clapham Junction and back and forth a couple of places.
What are some things I should know about, since I’ve never used it before?
Get a one day travelcard but don’t forget, snow at this time of the year COMES AS A COMPLETE SURPRISE to the railway authorities so expect delays and severe disruptions to all services

make sure youre on the right platform and the train is going in the direction you want it to
e.g. if youre going to hatton cross dont get the uxbridge train (even though they are on the same platform)
AND buy a 1 day travelcard otherwise you’ll end up paying loads!
